My 15 plus years in the corporate finance world has been spent curating, implementing and refining policies and procedures on how to mitigate risk and create efficiencies. My fitness life is all about getting every day athletes to push their comfort zones. And my life as a mum and wife is a constant bridge to learning. As Albert Einstein was once quoted as saying “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” Time is precious, so when I’m not using it to build towards my goals, I’ll be using it to create moments with my family and friends – usually involving exercise, the beach, food, wine and laughter. Hi I'm April Hastilow, a mortgage adviser here at Opes Mortgages. I entered the finance industry after building my first home and experiencing build delays, cost over runs and basically anything else that could go wrong, going wrong. It made me want to help others in my position to have a better experience, so I started at a main NZ bank as a mobile mortgage manager to help others navigate the often stressful waters that is property lending. I then moved onto being a mortgage adviser many years ago, as I realised I could better help clients with access to all providers. I'm proud to have been named in the top 15 mortgage advisers in NZ for the last 3 years in a row. My goal is to support, simplify and advocate for my clients. I love helping investors meet their goals through smart set ups, great interest rates and making sure the banks they are using truly fit their needs, rather than just forcing them into fitting one banks policy. I'm also passionate about helping first home buyers, and a perk of the job is all the photos I get of people with their new dog they can now get as a home owner! Outside of work you'll find me in the hills or forest walking my adorable but badly behaved dogs, riding motorbikes anywhere in the world my licence allows me, or spending time with friends and family over a good cheese platter and a dry rosé.

Hi, I’m Shaun, mortgage adviser at Opes Mortgages.

I have been a mortgage and home loan advisor for close to 20 years. Having started at BNZ as a MMM and then ANZ for several years before going to Squirrel mortgages for 5 years prior to arriving at Opes. Over the years I have seen the process change from being price driven to being advice and solution driven so having access to all banks and understanding the different functions and features of their loan products allows me to deliver a more complete solution and add more value to buyers home loan journeys, whether it be a first home, last home, holiday home, construction loan or investment – I have done them all.

I understand the journey and the challenges and am often available on call over weekends and evenings to discuss and review how different property types and proposals will fit in and line up with any loan approvals or applications we have underway. It’s a bit of a passion and I walk the talk.

Personally life outside work is full of sons, granddaughter, dogs and cars, roadtrips etc - often to look at property or discuss it and my network of friends is predominately clients and people/families that I’ve engaged with to provide some lending solutions to.

On returning to New Zealand, I then expanded my professional career as an Executive Assistant working in two, large New Zealand owned and operated companies. I have spent the last 6 years supporting and working alongside my husband in our Financial Services & Insurance company.

In my free time I love to do Yoga and go on adventures and travel with my husband Ben & two children India & Nixon. You will find me relaxing on the weekends and enjoying a Pinot Gris with family & friends.

Hi I’m Kirstie, mortgage adviser support here at Opes Mortgages. I’ve been working in the financial industry for over 12 years, having started my career at Westpac then transitioning into the broker world in the last year or so. My role entails working with Peter Norris as his support person, where I am assisting with day to day tasks including finalising lending applications for his many wonderful clients! I love working behind the scenes and seeing clients reach their financial goals. It is a great sense of achievement to be part of this.

Life is busy but in my spare time I like to be outdoors (walking, gardening or fishing). I have many animals I look after and help a local cat rescue with fostering. I volunteer my time to run my son’s junior cricket club while building up a small business on the side and attending the many sports games my son likes to play.

Hi I’m Brad, part of the Mortgage Adviser Support team here at Opes Mortgages and work very closely with our Director, Peter Norris, in Auckland. I have been involved in all facets of the financial services industry and now pride myself on helping deliver the level of service and results clients have come to expect from Peter.

Outside of the office, I like to earn a few beers either on the golf course or tennis court. I am the last remaining family member in Auckland as the rest are now all based in Central Otago, which isn’t all bad as the wine is pretty good and my family visits now coincidently revolve around the ski season.
